Microsoft to extend support period of Windows XP Home Edition

The PCG-X505/SP, part of Sony's Vaio series, weighs 785 grams -- the lightest of all Windows XP-based PCs -- and is equipped with a 10.4-inch liquid crystal display. When closed, the front of the new PCs will measure as thin as 9.7 millimeters. Offering the PCG-X505/SP for 349,800 yen, Sony will accept orders via the Internet from Nov. 19.

He said five of Japan's major computer makers will start selling personal computers (PCs) equipped with the Japanese version of the Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system in the fall.
